UCSB Club Sports Roundup, 1996 February 8

Last weekend's UC Santa Barbara Sport Club activities were highlighted by the Sailing Team's victory in the South Series Regatta in San Diego. The Gaucho sailors finished first out of a field of twelve, including strong varisty programs from USC and UC Irvine. This weekend finds the Sailing Team hosting an all-day alumni regatta Saturday at Santa Barbara Harbor.

Less successful in their road contests were the Men's Ultimate Frisbee team, who finished 3-3 in the Arizona Invitational, and the Bowling team, who placed sixth at the California Invitational in Pinole Valley. Both squads are idle this weekend.

Closer to home, the Rugby squad battled Long Beach State through three scoreless quarters on a muddy Storke Field Saturday before breaking through in the fourth for an 8-0 victory, to push their record to 5-0. The next Gaucho rugby match is this Saturday at Cal State Fullerton.

Nearby at the UCSB Lacrosse Pit, the Men's Lacrosse team fell 12-8 to Sonoma State. The Men's Laxers are in action again this Saturday as they travel to Davis to take on UC Davis.

Aside from the regatta in the harbor, the other local Club Sports event this weekend will be a hands-on public gathering at the UCSB Lagoon hosted by the Rowing team, this Saturday morning from nine to noon.

The Ski Teams return to action at Mammoth Lakes this weekend, with the women's team currently solidly in first place in their league, and the men in third in theirs.

Finally, travelling to Long Beach this weekend are the UCSB men's and women's fencing teams, who face UC San Diego, Cal State Fullerton, and Cal State Long Beach; and the Cycling team, who take on UCSD and Cal State. For sportspot, this is Joe P------k with the Club Sports Roundup.
