UCSB Club Sports Roundup, 1996 March 14

The weekend's UC Santa Barbara Sport Clubs activities were highlighted by a clean sweep from the Gaucho Lacrosse squads. The women's "B" squad kicked off Saturday's and Sunday's play with victories of 17-14 over Caly Poly and 20-7 over Pepperdine, respectively; the Women's A squad follwed Saturday with a 15-7 win over the Tri Check Club and the Men were victorious Sunday over the Santa Barbara Lacrosse Club. The Women's Lacrosse "A" squad sees the only Club Sports action scheduled for the coming week, with a 1pm match St. Patrick's Day against Whittier College at the UCSB Lacrosse Pit.

The UCSB Rugby team lost their second game in a row, 30-27 to a heavily favored Navy squad. They may host a scrimmage with Argentina, after which they're scheduled to take on Army on Friday, March 22nd, 6pm at Rob Field, before departing on their week-long tour of the Lone Star State.

The UC Santa Barbara Cyclists hosted a couple of events this weekend, holding a criterium on the streets of Isla Vista on Saturday and a time trial in the Santa Ynez mountains on Sunday. They finished second to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in both events. The Cycling team returns to action in two weeks, travelling to Claremont to take on Claremont and San Jose State.

The Sailing team had a gruelling weekend at the South Division Regatta in San Diego. With USC and UC Irving taking the top two spots to make the Pacific Coast Championships, UCSB and Cal State Long Beach were left tied for the third and final berth. The deadlock will be broken with a sail-off at the March 30th regatta.

The UCSB Rowing team was in Los Angeles to face the University of an Diego, UCLA and Loyola Marymount; the Gaucho Men's Novice squad dominated their division, while the Novice Women finished second to USD, an the Varsity Women came in third, behing UCLA and USD. The rowers will travel to Stanford for their next competition March 23.

Finally, the UC Santa Barbara Ski Team had their races for this weekend cancelled, but will be in action again the weekend after next at Mammoth Mountain.
