Software Engineering

My friend and former coworker Bill Pabst keeps saying I should jot down some of these notions that I bring up, so I figured I’d give it a try; take a look at Things I Wish I’d Known for technical details and Rants for a higher ratio of opinions to technical content. My bookmarks file has become so congested with various sorts of resources that I’m organizing my information about open source and Internet technology.

My engineering background has been quite varied, as you can see from my resume. I’ve done everything from VxWorks and TCP/IP to GUI design, the World Wide Web, and computer graphics. I’ve created cross-platform projects that worked on Win32, the Macintosh, SunOS 4, Solaris, HP/UX, and AIX. I’ve had three whole semesters of computer science in my education (the CS 60ABC series at UC Berkeley, back in 1988–9).

Peter Seebach’s Hacker FAQ is good reading for managers and his Manager FAQ is good reading for hackers.
